About Dentures Direct
For more than two decades, Dentures Direct has established its reputation as the trusted source for dentures and all things denture related for thousands of devoted customers in the Townsville community. Since its inception in 1993, Dentures Direct has been successfully operating under the direction of dental prosthetist and eye technician Kevin Smith.
Today, the clinic, with its fully equipped in-house laboratory, has expanded to include two dental prosthetists and many associated dental professionals. Along with conventional dentures, the clinic creates implant supported dentures, custom mouthguards and prosthetic eyes. Dentures Direct is registered with all health funds and welcomes DVA patients.
Our clinic is located in the Kirwan Chambers building. Free public parking is available, along with direct wheelchair access.
Meet Our Dental Prosthetists
KEVIN SMITH, Dental Prosthetist and Eye Technician & Founder of Kirwan Denture Clinic
A treasured member of Dentures Direct, Kevin trained and qualified as a maxillofacial technician at the Townsville Hospital in 1974. He spent 12 years with the Royal Australian Air Force as a Dental Technician, including six years in Asia. Upon discharge from the RAAF in 1987, he opened a crown and bridge laboratory in Sydney. In 1990, after too many cold winters, he decided to return to Townsville where he was the Senior Technician of the Dental Clinic.
By 1993, Kevin had obtained further qualifications as a dental prosthetist, bought a commercial laboratory and set up practice as Kirwan Denture Clinic, where he has remained ever since. Recently, the clinic has changed its name to “Dentures Direct” to reflect the new business structure.
Additionally, Kevin’s interest in maxillofacial work was the driving force behind his work in eye prosthesis.
JACOBUS BURGER, Dental Prosthetist & owner of Dentures Direct
Jacobus (Jacob) completed his Dental Technician Qualification at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in Cape Town, South Africa in 2002. He worked with Bremadent Premier, a full house dental laboratory based in London, UK. In 2007, he returned to South Africa to work with Western Cape Denture Clinic where he specialised in removable denture prosthetics.
Jacobus immigrated to Australia in 2012 and worked with the Gold Coast’s Venter Dental Laboratory, specialising in the design and manufacture of acrylic, metal and flexible nylon dentures. He completed his Dental Prosthetist Qualification in Brisbane at the end of 2013, before moving to Townsville to join Kirwan Denture Clinic.
